Position Title: Workforce Development Coordinator
Reports To: Vice President, Development and Partnership Relations
Location: Canton, Ohio (In-person)
Employment Type: Full-time, grant-funded through the EDA Good Jobs Challenge (APEX Initiative)
Position Overview
The Workforce Development Coordinator will support the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce’s role as a subrecipient of the Good Jobs Challenge (GJC) APEX initiative, a regional workforce grant led by the Greater Akron Chamber (GAC). This position will coordinate outreach, participant recruitment, training connections, and job placement for Stark County residents pursuing careers in advanced manufacturing and the polymer industry.
Working closely with GAC/ConxusNEO, Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG), and local employers, the Workforce Development Coordinator will strengthen the regional talent pipeline by connecting individuals to in-demand training programs and sustainable employment opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct outreach and engagement with job seekers through community partners, events, and local networks.
- Screen and assess participants for training eligibility, interests, and readiness.
- Coordinate with training providers and educational partners to facilitate enrollment and completion.
- Maintain ongoing communication and support for participants throughout training and job placement.
- Partner with local employers to identify hiring needs and connect qualified candidates.
- Track participant progress and outcomes in AGS Prime, ensuring compliance with federal data and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with regional partners, such as Ohio Means Jobs, to share best practices and improve program effectiveness.
- Connect Chamber business members to local workforce programs, grants, and resources.
- Assist with young professional programming and college internship initiatives as needed.
- Help organize monthly business resource events at the Chamber.
- Support regional priorities including workforce and child care initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Development and Partnership Relations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in workforce development, business, human services, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Two to four years of experience in workforce development, career services, or training coordination preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with manufacturing, polymers, or related industries preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate data and reporting.
- Valid driver’s license required; role involves regular local travel within Stark County and occasional regional meetings.
